MTConnect standard is known for its semantic vocabulary specially designed for the machine tool industry, while OPC UA allows semantic communication between industrial devices. Both of them when combined result in a complete industrial interoperability standard. The MTConnect server provides semantic definitions in a structured XML format in contrast to the commonly seen proprietary formats, which means uniform data that is accessible by vast applications in the industry.
